The Vienna Pharmacognostic Institute found that this plant has the same medicinal action as the European variety, Arnica montana but is easier to grow! Arnica is considered to be one of the most powerful herbs for the treatment of bruises and sprains available to modern herbalists, applied topically when infused in cream, salve or gel. Strong analgesic and antiseptic properties has also been found to be effective in treating ostoarthritic pain when applied to the skin. A hardy alpine perennial that enjoys a cool climate and good drainage in acidic soil, making it well suited to rock gardens and raised beds.
