Blue Spear Lavender
Lavandula angustifolia 'PAS1213794'
Uses: Culinary/Medicinal/Aromatic Duration: Perennial (hardy in zones 6-8)
When to Sow: Spring/Late Summer/Early Fall Ease of Germination: Moderate
The most sensational English lavender you can grow from seed as flower spikes are bigger, taller and more uniform than those of any other seed-grown variety. Stems grow compactly, allowing denser flower spikes which creates a stunning appearance for both onlookers and pollinators when grown as mass plantings! Like any other variety, Blue Spear Lavender must be located in full sun and planted in well drained alkaline sandy soil, ideally in a raised bed or rock garden as it is prone to root rot if conditions are too wet. Perfect for borders, rock gardens and containers. After the second year of growth, begin pruning once or twice a year, cutting back a third of its foliage. This will help maintain its shape, leaf and flower production as well as prevent woodyness. Bloom time June-July and lasts 3-4 weeks. Height 28-33cm (11-13 inches)
