Lemon Thyme
Thymus x citriodorus
Uses:
Culinary/Medicinal/Aromatic
Duration:
Perennial
(hardy in zones 4-9)
Invigorating lemon aroma and flavour! Thyme of choice if your looking to add a light zest to your cooking, especially salads, fish and chicken dishes. Use sprigs as a decorative garnish, to add an eye catching touch. Lemon Thyme is a hardy variety with an upright bushy growth habit, and tubular pale purple blossoms that attract pollinators Plant in sandy, well drained soil in full sun. Looks great in rock gardens, as a groundcover and as a border plant. Plant in sandy, well drained soil in full sun to partial shade. Thyme is typically low maintenance, but will need to be trimmed back after flowering to encourage a bushy growth. Sensitive to over watering, as thyme is susceptible to fungal diseases and root rot. Harvest in the morning, just before flowering as concentrations of aromatic oils are highest at this time. Ht. 3-6 inches. Spread 6 – 9 inches.
