I have a 10 year old part Lab and Shar Pei. I think he is getting arthritus. What would be a good herb for him? Also do you think it is dangerous for the health to give a pet cayenne pepper once in a while to keep their blood healthy?

Please see the posting on this website (www.richters.com) entitled "Aging Dog with Arthritis".

As for Cayenne Pepper (Capsicum minimum), it most certainly can be given to dogs so long as it is given in moderate doses and not if the animal has a urinary or digestive tract condition or if the animal has a sensitive digestive tract. Under normal circumstances, a dog may have one gel-cap of Capsicum per day. Depending on the specifics of your animal’s condition, this dose could change. Make sure you keep the capsules away from your dog’s eyes and nose as well as away from your own as this herb can cause serious irritation and burning.
