Can you recommend a herb or vitamin that will help herpes.

Since we are not licensed practitioners, we offer the following for your information and research only. Herpes types described below can have serious complications and can be transmitted to others.

Genital herpes is a venereal disease that must be treated by a licensed medical practitioner. Herpes simplex, "cold sores" normally affect the face around the mouth and eyes, but sometimes affecting the brain. Herpes Zoster, shingles, is a reactivation of the chicken pox virus which affects the nerves, with pain and itching following the path of the nerves affected.

In general, you want to increase your immunity to combat the virus, improve diet and digestion so that nutrients are well absorbed, get lots of sleep, take anti-viral remedies and relieve pain. Anti-viral herbs are Calendula, Echinacea and garlic. Pain killers and nerve sedatives such as St. John’s Wort (also anti-viral), Valerian and Passionflower are effective. Dandelion root, taken as a tincture or as Dandelion coffee (available at health food stores) provides nutrients and improves digestion. Vitamin C, 2 grams a day and the anti-herpes amino acid lysine, 500 mg twice day are recommended.

Herpes zoster is often triggered by stress and aggravated by foods such as citrus fruit, chocolate, dairy products, nuts, peanut butter and coffee.
