I am trying to find out about parasites in the body and if there is an herbal cleansing for them. Are there really parasites in our bodies and if there are is an herbal cleansing sufficient? Enrich International sells a product to rid the body of parasites and I am curious of the validity.

What we refer to as parasites in the body are organisms, insects and worms that feed off our bodies, causing harm. Parasites may exist in the digestive tract, on the skin and on the head. They include ticks, fleas, lice, worms and most commonly, microscopic protozoa. They are usually transmitted by drinking or swimming in infected water but are also carried in raw meat and fish, pets and soil. In a person with healthy digestive and immune systems, internal parasites are killed by the acids in the stomach and passed out of the body. If they are not killed off in the stomach, they pass into the intestine where they can contribute to a number of illnesses including chronic intestinal problems, chronic fatigue and candida.

Treatment for parasites includes attention to diet and nutrition as well as anti-parasitic herbs. In the diet, raw meat and fish, dairy products, sugar and sweeteners, alcohol, mushrooms, should be avoided. All food should be cooked well in order to kill parasites. Vitamin supplements are usually required to boost immunity and lactobacillus acidophilus may be required to restore proper intestinal function.

Some herbs that rid the body of parasites are: Garlic, Pomegranates, Pumpkin seeds, Tansy and Wormwood. Tansy and wormwood must be used only under the care of a trained health professional.
