I am a 47 year old female and for the past year I have had quite a lot of pain in breast area especially during ovulation and menstration and just before have been for several test nothing was found but tissue is there something I can take on a regular bases to help relieve pain?

Sore breasts are often due to a hormone imbalance or to water retention. In the years leading to menopause, female hormones are decreasing. Sometimes, benign breast lumps and tenderness appear around the menopausal years.

The following suggestions have helped to balance hormones and reduce breast tenderness:

· avoid caffeine in coffee, tea and soft drinks

· Evening Primrose Oil: 2 - 500 mg capsules, three times a day provides essential fatty acids that help to balance hormones

· Vitex agnus-castus (Chasteberry): 20 - 40 drops first thing in the morning

If there is breast or abdominal swelling, indicating water retention,

· make sure you drink 8 glasses of pure water daily

· take dandelion (leaf and root) tincture to help remove excess water from the tissues: 20 drops, three times a day with meals

· drink nettle tea, three times a day between meals

Susun Weed, in "The Menopausal Years", Ash Tree Publishing, suggests the following to reduce the pain:

· Use large cabbage leaves, steamed whole until soft, to compress swollen, sore breasts

· Gently stroke St. John’s wort oil onto your aching breasts. This oil penetrates the nerve endings and relieves pain
