I am taking hops for pain relief and insomnia, I buy it in bulk, and make a tea. My question is how much hops is safe to use per eight ounces of water, and can to much hops be toxic to my system.

Hops tea is made by steeping half a teaspoon of dried hops flowers per cup (8 punces) of boiling water for 15 minutes. Drink one cup, three times a day. Taking more than this can result in a feeling of fatigue or depression.

Hops is a sedative and smooth muscle (muscles of the liver, gall bladder, urinary bladder, stomach, intestines) relaxant. It is contraindicated in depression because, with its sedative action, it can lower the mood.
