Herbs for Itching in Diabetes?

I’ve been looking for something for my sister, who’s a diabetic. She breaks out in an itchy rash all over her body. Nothing seems to work. There must be something out there that will work.  I’m into herbs and told her that I would look into finding her something.

There are many possible causes of itching. In diabetes, itching around the vagina and anus is common, but general itching is not common. It would be most helpful for your sister to visit a natural health practitioner – a medical herbalist or a naturopath – who can give her a full assessment to determine the factors causing the itch.

Some drugs cause itching. Look at the side effects listed for any drugs she is taking, and also check the drug side effects on the internet. Low liver function causes itching. Drinking alcohol stresses the liver. If she has any signs of yellow, especially in the eyes, ask her to get a liver function test done by her doctor. Allergies can cause itching. Thyroid problems and kidney problems can cause itching and candida causes itching.

For a start, advise your sister to drink lots of water to help elimination of toxins in the blood stream. Calendula flowers are often helpful: a tea taken internally three times daily and an infused oil of calendula flowers used externally two to three times daily.
