My wife is looking for a herb to help her increase her sex drive, but she has a protein C deficiency so most replacement in stores she can not take. If you know of something else she can take, can you let me know?

Protein C deficiency is a blood clotting disorder that may be asymptomatic, or may result in blood clots. If your wife is taking coumadin for blood clotting, then she needs to avoid herbs and other supplements that affect blood clotting.

Decreased sex drive can result from vaginal dryness, which can be remedied with a vaginal lubricant. Natural oils like extra virgin olive oil and other cold pressed oils work well as lubricants.

Sexually stimulating essential oils that can be used in a massage are Ylang Ylang, Patchouli and Jasmine. Ginger tea is said to stimulate female libido: 1/4 teaspoon of powdered ginger mixed with one cup of boiling water, taken with meals.

If your wife is not taking coumadin, the herbs mention in the item "Protein C Deficiency" may be helpful. Please see our website at *www.richters.com*. Choose "Q&A" from the main menu, then enter "Protein C" for the search.

The best medicine for improving sexual function is to look first for underlying causes of the problem. Causes can include poor circulation including heart disease, hormonal imbalance, nerve disorders, drug side effects, smoking, excess alcohol, stress, and anxiety. I recommend that your wife works with a medical herbalist or naturopath to promote balanced health. This way, her total health will improve and her need for supplements will be reduced.
