Can you recommend a safe herb or colon cleansing program for someone who has allergies to the following things: food color and additives, preservatives? I can eat any kind of foods. It is the added stuff I cannot have. I also have high blood pressure and take 75mg a day of Atenolol. Should I start out with the basic pysllium drink? If so, I have read that people can be allergic to that too. Or is it the powder if inhaled. I know the importance of colon cleansing and would like to find things I can take.

All of the packaged colon cleansers in a health food store should be free of food colours, additives and preservatives. Ask a knowledgeable health food employee for advice. I do not know why you want to perform a colon cleanse, so cannot advise you in any detail. A good regular diet that is high in fresh fruit and vegetables and whole grains and low in sugars, fried food and white flour products, is more important than doing a colon cleanse. For information on some of the ingredients used in colon cleanses, please see our website www.richters.com. Choose "Q&A" from the main menu, then enter "cleanse" for the search.

Some people are allergic to psyllium, but this is not common. Psyllium should not be used in cases of intestinal obstruction, difficulty in swallowing or esophageal narrowing.
