Are Garlic, Ginger and Fennel safe in Breastfeeding?

I was wondering if this is safe since I’m nursing: I eat a lot of garlic (crushed) and drink ginger (freshly grated), and fennel tea every single day and have been for 3 weeks now. My 6 month old has not been himself since yesterday. I want to make sure what I’m taking is safe for my baby.

Garlic is usually very difficult for the breastfed baby, causing digestive distress. I recommend that you avoid it. Ginger is a strong, hot herb and should be taken in moderation while breastfeeding: maximum half a cup daily of a tea made with one no more than one teaspoon of freshly grated ginger to a cup of boiling water. I have not heard of fennel causing a problem in breastfed babies.
