I would like to know how long I can take hawthorn berries? Is it safe to take the herb all your life?

The reasons for taking hawthorn are to strengthen the heart muscle and increase the blood flow through the heart. There have been cases reported of hawthorn causing low blood pressure (hypotension) and slowing pulse to an unhealthy level. The reported cases may be the result of taking hawthorn inappropriately, or they may be idiosyncratic cases (unknown reason for reaction in an individual). Hawthorn should not be taken in hypotension or a slow pulse unless recommended by a qualified natural practitioner who is monitoring blood pressure and pulse. Otherwise, assuming that the hawthorn user does need hawthorn and is monitoring his or her own blood pressure and pulse rate, hawthorn can be taken indefinitely.
