Minerals Rich Herbs

My 19 month old son is mineral defficient (per holistic M.D.) and is taking a mineral supplement from the doctor but there is little information on the bottle and I feel sure it’s synthetic. I’m now learning the importance of minerals in the diet and that nearly everybody is mineral defficient. Are there herbs high in minerals, particularly magnesium, that would be safe for this small of a child? Also, we have always been battling constipation with him and have now learned he has various food sensitivities too. I feel I’m on the right track with food eliminations from his diet and that the various supplements I’m giving him will heal his body that he can eventually eat all foods.

Herbs such as nettles, oat straw, alfalfa, chickweed and burdock root are wonderfully nutritive and can be made into strong teas after leaving them to steep over night and drank over the course of the next day. These herbs give a wonderfully rich bioavailable array of minerals. 1 cup per day would be sufficient for your son. I would also recommend unsulfured molasses as it is also rich in minerals but has another added benefit of being a natural bowel stimulant thus great for constipation. 1/2 to 1 tsp twice per day with his tea should help. Additionally, essential fatty acids are very important - 1/2 tsp of flax seed oil with each meal will help to improve his nutritional and digestive status as well as his bowels.
